The Society for a Design Museum Japan was founded in September 2012 by designer Issey Miyake and by Masanori Aoyagi, art historian and director-general of The national Museum of Western Art. Its aim is to spread awareness of the importance of design in Japan, and to build momentum toward the foundation of a national museum of design in Japan.
